Interview with the new president of Basle's 200-year-old Jewish community:
Q: Concerning institutions like Chabad Lubavitch […], there's a certain need to act, too, isn't there? How are you going to deal with this?
A: The collaboration with Chabad Lubavitch, which is meant to be a supplement to, or a support of, the community, has proved to be good so far; there's no contention.
Famous last words.

I'll be the first to say without irony that the local Chabad missionary is a nice and learned person, and that he and his wife did and do nice things.
In the Bay Area, inzake the more shomerishe community, Chabad is much appreciated - though almost everyone is aware of certain 'questions'.
The chabadnikkim that I know are without exception decent people, though I will confess that sometimes their blinkers, and their narrowness of vision, grate on me. I refuse to ask them about meshichism....... the chezkas kashrus applies untill and unless they out themselves. I believe that everyone else prefers to assume that the meshichistim are elsewhere, no, not our chabadniks.
Basel.
